9months 1 1/2 weeks:
Joaquin makes his way into the world. I had done all I could and was getting ready for the belly growing, not moving too much part of the pregnancy. On Wed. Aug 25th, Mike and I were home taking a "day off". Mike finished the stroller and the carseat. I painted the elephant (on the wall in the nursery). We said it out loud. "We are ready."
Well.
4:15am Thursday morning, my water broke.
...more story to come in a couple days.
9 months 1 week and a day:
Well, it is up to our son now. He is cooked and can make his entrance when he feels the time is right. Nursery is set. House is as set as it can be. We are ready. Well, as ready as we can be. ( They say typically, first births run a week late. who knows?)
Nothing to do but wait.
With less than 3 weeks until the due date, I want to take a chance now to say some Thank Yous.
I LOVE BEING PREGNANT! These last 9 months have been amazing! I feel blessed for having the chance to carry this boy and feel the love from the world while being a pregnant woman.
I want to thank my hubby for being the best partner, husband, soon to be daddy and best friend in the world. He has been an amazing support with every new pain, change and inch this belli has brought me. He has been to every appointment and class to bring us closer as a family and more prepared for this little one. I love you, Mike. I can't wait to be a mommy with you, daddy.
The grandparents... Both Mom and Dad (mine) and Jan and Dan (Mike's) have loved and supported us through this pregnancy. They made sure we are filled with stories of our own entrances into this world and advice based on their years of experience. They hosted the baby showers that have gotten our son a wonderful start in this world, reminding us of the extended family that we have. Thank you!
Eliana, aka Tia Lia, my sister and friend. She has been a great friend for many years and will play a huge role on the big day (she will have the only backstage pass to support both Mike and I in the hospital). She is our family. She also hosted a shower to bring our "uncles and aunties" into our baby world. It is at her and her hubby's house where our son will have his first yard!
Lise Simring, fairy godsister. I could not have asked for a better friend to guide me through this time. She has dispensed advice, stories and (THANK GOD!) maternity clothes. I would be half naked if it wasn't for her. Her family (hubby Rob and Ella 2 1/2) has helped out our son's nursery with hand-me-overs that will be so helpful as he grows up. Thank you.
Ona Stewart, Elaine and Paul Ducharme hosted a wonderful baby shower with 15 DeafBlind friends. This was a very special day for Mike and I. We know we are bringing our son into a wonderful community/family. It meant so much to us!
Craig, Tamara, Deborah and Anna- our construction crew!!! Last weekend they came over and helped us with last minute building, cleaning and organizing. THANK YOU THANK YOU! They helped transform our shack into a home for our son. Thank you for your time and effort.
Friends and family: you have been a wonderful support during this changing time for us. We are grateful to all the words, gifts and love. We look forward to raising our son with you!
World-at-Large: As my belli grew, the world became more friendly and loving. There have been long lines of women at public restrooms nudging me foward many with a knowing nod, people happily getting up and offering their seat on the train, smile after smile on the street once they spot my belli. I will miss the outpouring of love. I know that it will be redirected to our lovely son.
I feel blessed.
8 months 3 weeks:
Mike says to me, "It's August 7th." wow. September 10th although an average goal date, it still a bit over a month away.
wow. Time has passed, stories told, advice listened to, walls painted and soon our son will make his appearance. He will come on his own time, his own pace and into our lives.
It has been an amazing journey. I thank everyone who has carried a bag, open a door, given me a cookie while all the while I spoke incessently about this growing babe in the belly.
I am not done yet. Still have roughly a month. ( Or less. Or more. Depends on our son. Any bets?
8 months 1 week and a few days: It is unbelievable that within 2 months we will have a son. The nesting continues! Mike and I are doing great. We can't wait to meet him. I am on the home stretch. Less than 7 weeks left assuming he comes when they predict( that never happens!). I am out growing everything I have, so if you see me in the same (but clean) outfit, please be kind! I definitely need help. I am experiencing hip pain which makes me walk (wicked) slow and I can't really get around as I had hoped. If you have time to do grunt work (aka stuff I would never ask, but can't do right now), email me. The baby websites tell us he is Big. Movements are different now that he takes up so much room. I get a lot of baby butt at the top of my belly. SHOWERED WITH LOVE... Thank you to all of the friends and family who have support and love us. We have been blessed with a few showers and we are thrilled Quin will not be short of love, sitters and onesies! To the hostesses, THANK YOU!

7 Months: He has taken up much more room in the belly. I can find him where love handles once were (and will be again!) and he loves the front of my belly. Definitely well into the waddle. I can find rump and head and I am still unsure which is which. Mike and I couldn't be better. We are in love and in love with our upcoming family. Nesting like crazy. The room is painted (thanks Eddie). And now the organizing! I am VERY BELLY!
6 months 6 days: Well, I am starting to waddle. There is no hiding this belly. Our boy dances up a storm. Friends and family are welcome to belly time. I often will grab your hand to give you a thumpy-thump-thump or a little butt.
I am tired... and HAPPY. Did I mention, I am very HAPPY! ( and hungry). Books say he is about 11 inches long and 1 1/2 pounds. (smile) We are getting closer to the BIG DAY trying to get ready... trying. Thanks to everyone who has given advice and help and stories- we truly feel supported.
BOY !!! Eliana, Jeff Trader, Joy, Jody, Lizzie, 15 students in Kellie's class, Tom
5 months and 6 days: I have been a bit tired lately, so I have not had a chance to update this page.
Wow! A BOY! We are thrilled. It is a wonderful feeling to have a connection with this now kicking and moving boy in my belly! He is entering my radar. I no longer think it's gas..smiles. The books say he is about 6 inches head to bum. I cannot imagine what it will be like in a few months!
My mom will be up here for Mother's Day and will get to come with us to an appointment... I am thrilled to bring abuela to hear the heartbeat firsthand!
REGISTRY: We have started the baby registry... we will be found at Babies R Us. The reason I write this is to ask mommas to feel free to let me know what product really work for you. There is SO MUCH out there and I like the personal review!
The other question... Cloth VS Disposable Diapers? What do you think?
17 weeks (+ 4 days) I have been taking votes when I see friends, Well, I can't remember anything these days, so some votes have gone away... sorry. Feel Free to email your vote. We will find out this Friday!
4 months:(on the nose) I haven't gotten very deep about how I really feel about all this. I am blessed to have a husband who is excited for every day of change as I carry our little one around. My parents, even though far away, send so much love from Florida. Mike's folks are ever so supportive and I am thrilled to bring the first grandchild to the Gercik side! Friends and family (are welcome to rub the tummy) are loving and present in this crazy time for me.
I cannot believe how right this feels. I am nervous and excited about what is ahead for us (no way to prepare, right?!). I spent time with Joy G. and her adorable 2 1/2 yr.old twins- for me it helped bring the idea of baby off the Babies R Us catalog and into the real world!
Mike and I will be bringing a little person into this world. We can't wait to meet him or her!
4 months: (actually 2 days shy) Life is moving along. For these website shots I will wear the same gym stuff. It will show the ever-growing tummy.
I do have fun new maternity clothes (don't worry I have more than the gym clothes!!) We are 2 weeks away from knowing if its a Girl or a Boy. We are taking guesses. What do you think? GIRL or BOY- Tap Here!
Votes will be tallied on this page!
Week 13: 3 months and some! We heard the baby's heartbeat. What an amazing sound. whoosh-whoosh-whoosh I am already growing out of my clothes.
Week 9: Appointment went well- we are past out 2 month mark and on our way!
Week 4: We found out we were pregnant on January 3rd, 2004. Mike and I are thrilled!
